SportsTV – Truck of the Month NEP SUPERSHOOTER 24 (SS24)

Making its debut at CBS’s NFL pre-season opener in Philadelphia, PA, Supershooter 24 (SS24) is the largest HD mobile unit in the country. SS24 is actually two trucks – NEP’s designers realized that it was not possible to build a very large HD truck in a single trailer and provide adequate space, air conditioning, electrical power, and equipment access and meet the federal weight requirements for trucks at the same time. While most every HD truck of any size today has a B unit to carry all the extra stuff required for the big show, NEP designed SS24 to easily accommodate plenty of gear, including up to 24 cameras (including two HD slo-mo cameras) and 10 EVS LSM and/or Spot Boxes with Sports Net and X Files, along with Six VTRs – for a total of 26 record channels.

SS24’s A trailer contains the production control room, transmission area, and graphics room. The B trailer houses audio, video, main transmission, and the record/playback room. This separation and the system design allow graphics to begin loading as soon as the truck is powered. During teardown, the tape melt can occur while the production trailer is disconnected, closed and packed, allowing for maximum set-up and tear-down efficiency. The trailer interconnect is via a combination of traditional copper paths on high-density connectors, with 48 HD paths between trailers on fiber.

Among other projects, SS24 will handle the Sweet Sixteen to Final Four NCAA Basketball Games on CBS, followed by the Triple Crown (Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes) on NBC.
